Old Days (Was – Were)

Geçen seneki bilgilerimizden hatırladığımız gibi ‘to be' fiilleri ‘am, is, are' idi. Bunlar genelde ya da halen geçerli olan durumları anlatmak için kullanılıyordu. Bu ünitede aynı durumların artık değiştiğini ya da geçmişte kaldığını anlatmak için ‘to be' fiillerinin past form'u olan ‘was were' kullanmayı öğrenecegiz.

I was a student last year.

I am a teacher now.

NOT:
‘Am, is, are' ve ‘Was, were' cümlelerinden esas fiil yoktur. Aşağıdaki örneklere dikkat edelim.

Bu cümlelerin en çok ayrıldığı nokta kullanılan time expressions (zaman anlamı veren ifade)' dır.
1. ‘am, is, are' la kullanılan ifadeler:
a) – Today – This week
– Now month year

Zaman ifadesi kullanmaya gerek kalmadan, genelde geçerli olan durumları anlatmak için de ‘am, is, are' kullanılabilir. Ancak bir ayrım yapılması istendiğinde mutlaka zaman ifadeleri verilmelidir.
2. ‘was, were'le kullanılan ifadeler:
YESTERDAY / morning – LAST / week – tow days / AGO – in 1985, in 2005
afternoon year five weeks
evening Saturday two years
month ten minetes
‘Am, is, are' ve ‘was, were' ün kişilere göre dağılımı aşağıdaki gibidir:
